My Valentine

It's about time for Joe and my's annual Valentines Day tradition. We go to a store that has a nice array of Valentine's Day cards and we select the perfect one for each other. We exchange cards right there in the aisle, ohhh and ahhh, then put the cards back. The sentiment is there, but it doesn't cost any money and the card it's sitting around the house waiting for me to figure out what to do with it. It's romantic in it's own little twisted way. I'm not into the flowers and candy thing either. If Joe really wanted to surprise me with something special, he could bring me a bouquet of an assortment of yarn. I would be his Valentine forever!

Honor Your Mother

Happy Mother's Day to all of you Mothers out there. There really needs to be more than one day to celebrate Mothers. It's a freakin hard job and it never ends. Then you have Grandmothers. It's like being a parent all over again but you don't have any control over them. FYI: It's not a good idea to try and tell your kids how to raise their kids. I don't do that; of course, I'm just trying to warn all you other Grandmothers not to do it. As a Grandmother you need to show self restraint. Besides it's the parents that are going to have to deal with the fall out of their bad decisions (pay back). Remember, they have to learn to parent just like you did. Guess what? You weren't always right either. So no matter how much you want to butt in, give them their space. You raised them, they will do the right thing. Unless of course your an idiot. Then your kids will be idiots too. It's a vicious cycle that is hard to break. As a Grandmother you can however, be a little more adventurous with the activities you engage in with your grandchildren. Like letting them walk around in the chicken yard with no shoes, spraying their hair with white hair paint for no apparent reason, putting tattoos on their foreheads, letting them play in the mud and sand and then hosing them down and finally, letting them paint your toenails and fingernails with a magic marker. What happens at Grandma's stays at Grandma's. It's easier to let loose with your grand kids because you don't have all the parental worries stressing you out. Being a Grandmother is kind of like getting a do over. You can do the things with your grand babies that maybe you didn't have time to do with your kids. So everyone, be kind to your Mother's today and everyday. Who else would do a job with no pay and little gratitude.

Top 'O The Morning To Ya!

Happy St. Patti's day everyone, and Happy Anniversary to Joe and I. 9 years! I can't believe I haven't scared him off yet. He knows and accepts my eccentricities. Remember, My eccentricities make me deliciously me (refer to: "what I always say" quotes). Besides, he needs me. Who else is going to organize his life and make him laugh. I keep things interesting for him. He never knows if he's coming home to happy Patti or depressed Patti or Patti on a mission. God love him, he puts up with all of them. Tonight we are going to a St. Patrick's Day dinner and dance across the street at the clubhouse starting at 4:30. (remember old people eat early). We can be home early enough to watch NCIS and the Mentalist and Dancing With The Stars in between; how bout that Melissa?

Note to kids: Julie has already called to wish us a Happy Anniversary. She called first thing this morning. Apparently she loves us the most. I'm just saying.

Barbie Is 50

I was born the same year as Barbie. So was Simon Cowell, Danny Bonaduce, Fabio, Jessica Hahn and Marie Osmond; just to name a few. I'm pretty sure we've all had a little work done especially that bitch Barbie. The top photo is how she looks now, left photo is of her in 1959. I actually had the 1959 Barbie. I think Steve got it for me. I wish I still had it, it's worth thousands of dollars now. One sold on e-bay a few years ago for over $3500.00. If you examine her photos of today versus 1959, you can tell she's had work done. She never used to have a belly button so for sure she's had a tummy tuck. Her eyes also look a little lifted at the corners so I'm pretty sure that indicates a possible face lift or at the very least an eyebrow lift. She's probably had some chemical peels as well because she should have some sun spots on her face from all of that time she has spent in Malibu. It's a fact to that blondes don't age as well as brunettes. Her ponytail is probably a little tight too. That helps give the appearance of smoother facial skin. I actually have a hair clip that not only pulls up my hair but my face as well. I wear it when I'm feeling old. Instant face lift. This photo of Barbie is how she would look had she not had any work done.

My Romeo

Aaaah, Love is in the air. Spring is just around the corner and we're just one day away from the most romantic day of the year. I am not one for impractical displays of affection like store bought flowers or candy. Give me a new power tool and I will love you forever. However, sometimes even "I" appreciate a little romance. Joe and I were on the subject of divorce; not a romantic subject you say? No, it's not, but we were talking about other peoples divorces. In our circle of friends there are a few recent breakups. Ok, it's not really a circle of friends, because we don't have many friends. It's more like a dot of friends. Really they're not friends, they're more like acquaintances. So, in our dot of acquaintances there have been a few breakups. I jokingly asked Joe if he was going to get rid of me anytime soon, figuring he would say something like; "Oh no darling, I love you too much to let you go!" Or at least something to that effect. Instead he says; "No, it would be too much work." Seriously???? That's like saying; "I'm staying married to you because there is too much paperwork involved in a divorce." Or; "My schedule is too full to fit in appointments with a lawyer." How romantic! Come on Joe, throw me a bone!!!!! After I pointed out that his comment was less than inspiring, he quickly made up by saying some mushy stuff that was total bullshit. That satisfied me. What really touched my heart though was the fact that he took the trash to the curb for me. What a man! He's quite a Romeo.

New Year's Resolution

My New Year's resolution is to not make any resolutions. Most people including me like to make the resolution to lose weight or exercise more. That is a great resolution, but rarely lasts more than a couple months. I would like to make the resolution that I will be 10 years younger by the end of the year, but short of a major miracle, that isn't going to happen either. Unless of course I visit my friendly neighborhood plastic surgeon. Funny thing, I got a Christmas e-mail from Dr. Lee's office. Seems they have a 10% discount offer going on right now. Even plastic surgeons are feeling the economic crunch. He's gonna have to wait though, I'm not up for that. (At least not yet).
Actually I am going to make a resolution. It's not something I can really fail at because it can't really be measured, so I am safe from ridicule for not having kept it. I resolve to make an "effort" to leave the house more and be more social. I know, Weird! I am actually well on my way to becoming a hermit. If I could get someone to shop for me, I would probably never leave the house. I am perfectly happy and content to stay in my own little world. I'll work on that and I guess we'll see what happens.

Chirstmas 2008

This photo pretty much sums up our weekend Christmas gathering; chaotic and fun! I tried to get a picture of all of the grand babies with Nanu. I think we succeeded pretty well. All of us are in the picture anyway. This needs to be a new tradition. Maybe by the time they are 21 they will all cooperate at the same time. Actually I love the picture because it shows real life. Go to the "photo gallery" to view the rest of the photos. I have much more to say about our weekend, but for now I have to go reorganize my house and see what all was left behind.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

I have many things to be thankful for. My two number one's are my family and the health of my family. Everything else is just gravy. I do however have an issue with the Turkeys. They are whiners. You always hear about how terrible it is for the turkeys on Thanksgiving day. The president even pardons two of them every year. What about the chickens??? They get eaten on a daily basis. You turkeys need to suck it up for one day and be thankful that you are too much of a hassle to cook more than once a year. Have a Happy Turkey day and wear elastic band pants.

Jax Halloween

Go to my Photo Gallery and click on the Jax Halloween 08 to see a cute little slide show. I couldn't download it directly to my blog for some reason, so go check it out.

Halloween Antics

I'm a bad Nanu, but in my defense I can only be one place at once. Brad probably wishes I was in another place instead of with them. I decided to dress up Ellie and my plans were to trick or treat with Jax for the first half of the trick or treat hours and with Julian and Nickel the second half. Well, Ellie kind of stole the show in her princess outfit. Everyone was commenting on the cute dog. One lady asked me: "what is his name?" "Jaxon", I replied. "No, the dogs name?" Oops! I also made the mistake of letting Jax hold Ellie once and now he doesn't want to put her down. So the whole time if Jax wasn't holding Ellie, he was screaming. Amanda and Brad's expectations of a perfect Halloween were shattered by reality. Ellie and I won't be invited next year. I am ready to leave to go see Julian and Nickel, and Sarah sends me a text that they are just about done. Crap! I got there just as they were getting back to Sarah's parents house. I missed the whole thing, but at least I was going to watch them later that evening while Sarah and Bryan went to a party. Bryan and Sarah came over to get dressed for their party. Sarah was a dirty pirate hooker and Bryan was an 80's rocker. Bryan wore some of my clothes and a wig and I put his makeup on. (Something I never thought would happen). I figured out why his look disturbed me so much......He looked like me! You be the judge.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
