Change Is Good; But It's Also Annoying

Thanks Google, Microsoft and Face Book etc... for updating your hardware; but do you really have to change the format of the page every time????  I get used to where everything is on a page and then it gets updated to improved my Internet experience, and I have to learn it all over again.  Maybe that is a good thing because it keeps my brain cells activated.  It is still none the less annoying.

I'm Baaaack

This is probably the longest I have gone without blogging. Only one post since July 4th. Well, I think I am back on track. My computer works and the Internet is back up and running. My relationship with my Indian friend is over. He didn't help me anyway. After probably two and a half hours total of trying to resolve my Internet issue with the Indian guy, a good 'ol American guy from Best Buy diagnosed my problem in less than five minutes. Don't get me started on this out sourcing bull shit! For one, I can never understand them. Secondly, after my last interaction I think I know more than they do and I don't know shit about computers. Try asking them a question!!! If you get them off script they don't know what to do. My favorite part???? When they first come on the line it sounds like this:"djfkdj fjkdffd fjkdfd fjhdkfkd lfdjkfdj xsskfjrefdvcm my name is John." Really???? No, if you have that thick of an accent your name cannot be John! Hopefully I won't have to deal with them anytime soon.

Time To Celebrate

I got my baby back and she has a brand new keyboard! Other computers are just not the same as your very own. One might say that I have an unnatural attachment to my computer, but I don't care! I love my computer and I don't care who knows it!
when was picking up my computer, one of the guys from the "Geek Squad" explained to me what was actually done to my computer. He also mentioned that I had a couple viruses on it. I have antivirus software so I was skeptical. The big box stores are always trying to sell some sort of service and I figured that he would get around to his sales pitch about how for $100 they can fix that problem for me. He made some quick keystrokes and some Microsoft program came up that apparently removes malicious software. He took care of it just like that! I asked him how he did it? He was pretty evasive, but without looking at me he kind of whispered the commands to me. He says "I'm not supposed to do that." Wow, Thanks! He gave me another tid bit of info to help prevent viruses. Since I am such a kind and generous sole, I will share with you what I learned today.

Patti's TOTD #11: This is how the "Geek" explained it to me. A person can have antivirus and antispyware programs which will catch most problems, but some viruses are acquired through programs that you already allow on your computer. So then the antivirus software thinks that they are ok since it's in a valid program. For instance: Recently on facebook a virus was sent through an unsuspecting person saying that they had a video of you and it included a link. If you opened the link, you would get the virus and since you were signed into a program that was apparently safe, it wasn't detected by your antivirus software. Those bastards. So,to help fix that problem....go to the start menu and click on "run". Type in: mrt and click enter. A Microsoft program will come up that will scan for malicious software and remove it. Pretty Cool!
Next, if you ever get pop ups that say "free antivirus scan", don't "X" out of the screen. The "X" actually activates the cooties. Hold down the alt key and press f4. That will close the window without activating the cooties. Actually I think you can use that for any pop up.

If I would have worn my push up bra, I might have got even better information from the guy. He so wanted me!

Oops!

Terrible tragedy on Wednesday. I spilled an entire cup of coffee on my keyboard of my laptop. It continued to work for about 15 minutes, then it became very sluggish. The good news is I still have a warranty. The best news is that it covers accidents. I must have known when I purchased the special warranty that I would need it. The bad news though, I won't get it back for 2-4 weeks!!!! The first day without my computer I was literally having withdraw. I kept going into my office area to use it, and it wasn't there. It screwed up my entire routine. In the morning, get coffee, check email, check blog, check facebook, check etsy, play a couple games of freecell and lookup whatever other random thing that pops into my head. It made me realize how much I depend on my computer. Joe brought his home from work so I can use it in the evenings and on weekends. At least I don't have to drive to the library. New rule...No liquids on the computer desk! Oops, I better move my cup.
